Know someone passionate about becoming an urban teacher ?
Richmond Teacher Residency (RTR) is an innovative partnership between Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and Richmond Public Schools (RPS).  Coordinated by the Center for Teacher Leadership (CTL), RTR recruits, trains, and supports teachers—preparing them to meet the distinct challenges of urban school systems.  Residents learn side-by-side with top RPS teachers for an entire year while earning a master’s degree from VCU.  RTR’s support doesn’t end at graduation either:  our graduates receive one-on-one training from a content-specific coach throughout the first two years of their teaching career. In addition to this strong preparation and support, teaching residents receive:

  • $24K stipend during the residency year; additional $4K for science and math candidates
  • special reduced tuition rate
  • 100% placement record post-residency with full benefits and salary as a full-time RPS teacher
  • support for National Board Certification after teaching for 3 years

Application deadline:  March 15, 2016
