The UCI Road World Championships didn’t exactly turn Richmond upside down, but it flipped us on our side for a good 10+ days, which was an interesting, odd, and sometimes exciting experience. Streets were closed for the cycling action, disrupting the city’s rhythm, but creating a new one for a few moments.

Organizers and officials are ginning up estimates of numbers of spectators and economic impact.  I gather—and hope—that independent analysts will undertake the same tasks so that we might compare the numbers. And in the coming days, before the Worlds fade into fuzziness, I’d like to hear stories from RVAers who attended as well as those who didn’t. Who benefited from the event? Who didn’t? Were people’s expectations met or not?
