This video is about foreigners asking for directions in China. I think this video is very useful because we studied asking for directions this semester. The speaker in the video is a little hard to understand, but the video has subtitles so we can understand. In the video a foreigner asks a Chinese person how to get to the station. The Chinese person can’t understand because she’s speaking English. But, they both end up improving, so they are able to understand one another. Although I had to watch the video a few times to understand what was going on, I still think it’s very informative and useful. This is a very useful video.
This video is about a trip around shanghai.
In this video, two men discuss Chinese food. The two came to China from the United States and have lived in China for a long time. They discuss Chinese restaurants in the west and make comparisons. The two men say American Chinese restaurants and Chinese Chinese food restaurants are not the same. China’s Chinese cuisine is not as sweet as American Chinese food. American Chinese food is also drier than China’s Chinese food. Both men said Americans don’t know that Chinese food, Japanese food, Korean food and Vietnamese food are different. Too many Americans often go to Chinese restaurants and order sushi. Very embarrassing! The two men also said that American Chinese food is too expensive. Chinese food in China is cheaper than Chinese food in the United States. I agree. Last summer, I went to Shanghai and ate a lot of Chinese snacks. In Shanghai, food is very very cheap. One more thing: there are no fortune cookies in China! I like Chinese restaurants better than American restaurants, but I love fortune cookies.
In this video, you can see a couple traveling around in Shanghai. They to around many places to eat food. It shows many delicious snacks around Shanghai. You can also see the how they travel from place to place at Shanghai. Introducing street name and how to get there. People could see some ancient building in this video. This video is great for our class because in one part of the video he talks about around direction. Which is something we are learning in class right now. Telling us how big and small the building is. Shanghai is a traveling spot for most people and i think that people would be interested to come to this place.
This video is the Chinese version of “Say Something”, sung by the artist A Great Big World. This video is very useful for learning Chinese because it shows you the lyrics in both Chinese and English on the screen as the song is playing. Many of the grammar rules we learned this semester are used in this song, such as 快要, and also several of our vocabulary words from previous lessons. Since this is such a well-known American song, it provides a unique opportunity to more easily learn and become comfortable with the specific words and phrases in Chinese.
This video is fascinating because it is about a poet who moved to Pittsburgh, PA for freedom of speech in 1990’s. Huang Xiang fought for democracy in China until he was imprisoned. I think it would be interesting for students to go see this house to see how this poet described his journey. He was liberated when he arrived to America, and have been working on his poems. It is interesting to see how dominant the censorship is in China. This helps students to learn about Chinese history and how some people have coped with their strict rules.
I found this website by searching though BaiDu. This is a search website for traveling. It provides informations for different traveling destinations such as plane ticket, hotel, tourist spots, etc. If traveling out of the country, this website also provides information about how to obtain a visa. From this website, different vocabulary pertaining to traveling can be learned. For a person who can read Chinese characters, the vocabulary on this website is not very difficult.

There are two Chinese students in this video. These students studied in Taiwan and they say Taiwan and China are very different. For example, Chinese people don’t use cash. They use Alipay. Alipay is a smartphone app. In Taiwan, people use cash.
The Chinese students also say that Taiwanese convenience stores are much better than Chinese convenience stores. Taiwanese stores have a lot of products. In Taiwanese convenience stores, Taiwanese people can buy tickets and print. Taiwan and China are so different!
