This video is about how foreigners view Chinese culture. I think that this video is very interesting, because we are both foreigners and Chinese students. The video’s speaker talks very fast, but I can understand what he is saying because the video has subtitles. Most foreigners know about Yin and Yang, Pandas, and Green Tea, but there is much more to Chinese culture. I am a foreigner who is very interested in Chinese culture. But many foreigners aren’t interested in Chinese culture. How sad! Listening to and watching this video improved my Chinese. I think all Chinese students should watch this video.
I chose this video beacuse i am very interested in the chinese arts like the music and paintings but am most interested in the calligraphy. i find it to be very elegant and i am interested in learning it and i hope i have a chance to learn it in future.

My project is music. This is “Higher Brothers” music. “Higher Brothers” are Chinese artist. Their music is very popular in the United States and China. They speak Chinese, but speaks some English. The music has American rapper “Ski Mask the Slump God.” He speaks very quickly. He is very popular in the United States. He does not speak Chinese, but makes music together with Asian artists. Higher Brothers is part of “88 rising”. 88 rising is an Asian music group, with Korean and Chinese people. They make hip hop music. Hip-hop music is the American, so Higher Brothers is bringing the Americans and the Chinese together. Americans who like hip-hop and Chinese can study this music. This is an American style of music, but there are Chinese artists and there are American artists. So, this is the best cultural integration. Their music relates to Americans.
This video is the Chinese version of “Say Something”, sung by the artist A Great Big World. This video is very useful for learning Chinese because it shows you the lyrics in both Chinese and English on the screen as the song is playing. Many of the grammar rules we learned this semester are used in this song, such as 快要, and also several of our vocabulary words from previous lessons. Since this is such a well-known American song, it provides a unique opportunity to more easily learn and become comfortable with the specific words and phrases in Chinese.
This video is fascinating because it is about a poet who moved to Pittsburgh, PA for freedom of speech in 1990’s. Huang Xiang fought for democracy in China until he was imprisoned. I think it would be interesting for students to go see this house to see how this poet described his journey. He was liberated when he arrived to America, and have been working on his poems. It is interesting to see how dominant the censorship is in China. This helps students to learn about Chinese history and how some people have coped with their strict rules.
I found this when I did the report. I think this is very interesting, I looked at it. “Under the Dome” is China’s air pollution documentary. Former China Central Television reporter Chai Jing produced it independently. It explains well the smog problem that affects China. It raises important questions to some responsible people and explains what ordinary citizens can do. This was released two years ago. A few weeks later, the government took it off the Internet. It tells an interesting story, it also has English subtitles. Listening and watching helps to understand the Chinese language better.

There are two Chinese students in this video. These students studied in Taiwan and they say Taiwan and China are very different. For example, Chinese people don’t use cash. They use Alipay. Alipay is a smartphone app. In Taiwan, people use cash.
The Chinese students also say that Taiwanese convenience stores are much better than Chinese convenience stores. Taiwanese stores have a lot of products. In Taiwanese convenience stores, Taiwanese people can buy tickets and print. Taiwan and China are so different!
This video is about the history of Ping Pong. I think that this video is very useful, because we are studying sports and hobbies in Chinese. In Chinese American history, Ping pong is also a very important sport. Ping pong is my favorite sport. This video’s speaker talks very quickly, but I can still understand some of it. Because this video has subtitles, it makes it allows Chinese students to comprehend a lot of the information. This video also has many famous people: Mao Ze Dong and Nixon. Now I know that ping pong is an incredibly important sport. Please watch the video!
This Chinese advertisement is about the importance of chopsticks in Chinese culture. It shows how to learn to use chopsticks and share meals is not only vital to strong family relationships, but also to teach the core values of Chinese culture, such as respect for the elderly. It demonstrates the celebration of the Chinese New Year, and shows how chopsticks are a source of common ground for everyone in China. In addition to having Chinese and English subtitles, this is an excellent tool for Chinese 201 students to learn more about Chinese culture.
