Hotwheels Activity #1

  • What was the point of this activity?

The point of this activity was to show students kinetic and potential energy.

  • Explain how you would introduce this to your class?

I would introduce it by giving the definitions of both kinetic and potential energy and some examples of both then have my students give me some examples of kinetic and potential energy and then roll into this activity because I think this is a great visual for both types of energy.

  • Where do you see students having difficulty?

The only difficulty that I think students would have would be connecting the tracks because they were a little tough.

  • What changes or extensions could you do to this activity?

I would prepare the tracks for the students.

Simple Machines Activity #2

  • What was the point of this activity?

The point of this activity was to demonstrate, identify, and describe simple machines.

  • Explain how you would introduce this to your class?

I would introduce it by explaining what simple machines are and give real-life examples of each simple machine.

  • Where do you see students having difficulty?

I see students having difficulty with building the lever and knowing when to use a simple machine and how you can use multiple ones at a time.

  • What changes or extensions could you do to this activity?

I would have the students find their own examples or build their own simple machine instead of just giving them the tools and pointing out which is which.

Egg Experiment. Activity #1

  • What was the point of this activity?

The point of this activity was to show students a chemical reaction.

  • Explain how you would introduce this to your class?

I would introduce it by asking students to tell me what they think a chemical reaction is and for them to give me examples.

  • Where do you see students having difficulty?

I don’t really see much difficulty.

  • What changes or extensions could you do to this activity?

I would try placing the egg in different acids and seeing if there is a difference.

The point of this activity was to demonstrate osmosis and this activity shows how things mix rather than seperate.

  • Explain how you would introduce this to your class?

I would introduce it by making lemonade and asking them what is going on.

I see students having difficulty with possibly mixing up the potatoes.

  • What changes or extensions could you do to this activity?

  • What was the point of this activity?

The point of this activity was to make observations without directly looking at it.

  • Explain how you would introduce this to your class?

I would introduce it by blindfolding a student and having them feel/touch/hear/smell random objects and guess.

  • Where do you see students having difficulty?

I see students having difficulty with the noise in the classroom.

  • What changes or extensions could you do to this activity?

I would change the Ob-Scertainers to only be a shape.

The point of this activity was to help with the understanding of the makeup of an atom.

  • Explain how you would introduce this to your class?

I would introduce this by showing and teaching the different models of an atom.

I see students having difficulty with understanding the difference between valence electrons and total electrons.

  • What changes or extensions could you do to this activity?

I just wouldn’t use buttons and I would use colored markers instead.

  • What was the point of this activity?

The point of this activity was to show density and help define “less dense” and “more dense”.

  • Explain how you would introduce this to your class?

I would introduce this activity the same way as the activity sheet.

  • Where do you see students having difficulty?

I see students having difficulty with understanding that no matter if an object is small, it doesn’t always mean that it will float.

  • What changes or extensions could you do to this activity?

I would have the students give examples of what will float or sink.

The point of this activity was to show physical/chemical changes and observations.

  • Explain how you would introduce this to your class?

I would introduce it by teaching the subject of physical and chemical changes.

I see students having difficulty with measuring and the students might not see past the fun.

  • What changes or extensions could you do to this activity?

I would have the teacher make the slime instead of the students.

The point of this activity was to get students comfortable using metric units and completing conversions.

  • Explain how you would introduce this to your class?

I would introduce it by telling the students the many uses of the metric system like communicating with other countries. I would start off by teaching the prefixes ex. milli- and centi- and teaching how to use a ruler.

  • Where do you see students having difficulty?

I see students having difficulty with the conversions and prefixes.

  • What changes or extensions could you do to this activity?

Establishing the prefixes/conversions

The point of this activity was to better understand mass and volume.

  • Explain how you would introduce this to your class?

I would introduce it by demonstrating the same activity with different shapes that have a different volume.

  • Where do you see students having difficulty?

I see students having difficulty with the equation, length x width x height.

  • What changes or extensions could you do to this activity?

I would add the measurements on the cube. I would also lay the big cube completely out showing a different shape but same volume.
