Phases of the Moon Activity #1

  • What was the point of this activity?

The point of this activity was demonstrate how we see the different phases of the moon and to show how the moon rotates on its axis and rotates around Earth.

  • Explain how you would introduce this to your class?

I would introduce it by asking students how they think we see different phases of the moon and have a visual demonstration.

  • Where do you see students having difficulty?

I see the difficulty with the names of the phases and when they are demonstrating with the flashlight and styrofoam ball, it might be difficult for the students to stay really still to see an accurate representation.

  • What changes or extensions could you do to this activity?

I wouldn’t change anything because this is a great visual for the students and this is something that would really help with learning the phases of the moon.

  • Scientific principle

Phases of the Moon.

Earth’s Seasons Activity #2

  • What was the point of this activity?

The point of this activity was to show how the tilt of the Earth has everything to do with what seasons we experience.

  • Explain how you would introduce this to your class?

I would introduce it by explaining the different seasons and having the students stand up and model this.

  • Where do you see students having difficulty?

I see students having difficulty with understanding equinox and solstice.

  • What changes or extensions could you do to this activity?

I wouldn’t change anything because this is a great visual for the students and this is something that would really help with learning how and why we have seasons.

  • Scientific principle

Seasons, summer and winter solstice, and fall and spring equinox.
