Data Visualization

Introduction

Taking complex and often large datasets, extracting and distilling relevant information, and presenting research results using broadly accessible visualizations is both a science and art. When given the same data, two individuals may approach this problem very differently. In this module we'll work with real data, including 'big data', some of which was collected right here at the Rice Rivers Center from a carbon flux tower, and work together to interpret hundreds to thousands of data points through simple visualizations. And, we'll explore the value of hypothesis visualizations -- hypotheses that are more than words -- as a way of considering how to analyze and visualize data.
