Student Research Projects

Introduction

Learning how to craft an experiment, run and interpret appropriate statistical tests, and write comprehensive research proposals to answer specific ecological questions is essential to effectively conducting research. A variety of approaches may answer the same scientific question, but researchers must avoid common pitfalls (such as failure to eliminate confounding variables) when setting up an experiment to produce meaningful results. Perhaps equally important is the ability to package and communicate the ecological novelty of one's research and the soundness of the experimental design.
