Advising appointments & Change of Major Process

Current ENVS Majors & Minors- Click here to make an appointment!
While advising is not mandatory, all Environmental Studies majors and minors are strongly encouraged to make an appointment with Lindsay each semester before finalizing course schedules!

Prospective students or current students who are considering a major or minor in environmental studies should email Lindsay Freeman at envsadvising@vcu.edu.   Please include your general availability for the week within your initial email.

If you submit a change of major or change of minor form to switch your major to ENVS,  you will receive an email from Lindsay asking you to set up an appointment.  Change of major/ minor requests will not be approved until after you have met with the ENVS advisor.

Already an ENVS major but thinking about switching to another course of study? If you have questions about a major or minor that is not environmental studies or you are trying to switch your major from ENVS to something else, please see an advisor from that department. General advising info for the university and info about changing your major can be found on this page.

First year advising All first-year students (students who have never attended another university since graduating from high school) are assigned to a team of advisors in University Academic Advising.   If you are a first year environmental studies major, your assigned advisor for 2019-2020 is Allison Norden, who can be reached at nordanan@vcu.edu.  Lindsay Freeman is the assigned advisor for all other ENVS majors.

Need to reschedule/cancel your advising appointment?

Please either cancel the appointment through your MyVCU Portal, email envsadvising@vcu.edu, or call 804-827-4218 to let Lindsay know you need to cancel. Even if you must cancel at the last minute, an email or phone call is always appreciated.

Walk in Advising Information:

Walk in hours are typically held on Wednesdays from 1-3pm & Thursdays from 2-4pm during the fall and spring semesters in the Trani Life Sciences Building, Room 107 (Lindsay’s office).  The walk in schedule for the entire fall 2019 semester is posted below.  Walk-in advising hours are first come, first served, and are meant for students with relatively quick questions (10-15 minute time slots).
