Nugget #2..Man Computer Symbiosis.

“About 85 per cent of my “thinking” time was spent getting into a position to think, to make a decision, to learn something I needed to know. Much more time went into finding or obtaining information than into digesting it. Hours went into the plotting of graphs, and other hours into instructing an assistant how to plot. When the graphs were finished, the relations were obvious at once,”

This quote from the reading was the most interesting to me, because Licklider is suggesting that machines such as calculators gave him back 85% of his time. Now lets think with 85% of his time back, I’m positive he now had time to make vastly big strides in his certain objectives. One could say that the speed that technology is producing at is due to inventions giving us “85%” of our time back. Now we can take a look at the inventions we have today that give us so much time back that our productivity must be through the roof compared to 50 years ago. I believe we are so productive in our lives now it is impossible for me to think of how productive we will be 50 years from today.

  1. It would seem to me that we are less productive when it comes to technology. I feel like everything on the internet is so distracting that we waste time on other things when we have loads of information that we could be accessing on the internet!

  2. That’s a very true statement about the productive we have these days. I’m trying to imagine how easy students will have it since according to my parents, we have it very easy these days.
