My colleague, Tom Woodward, shared an article with us recently that I found fit our conversation on Tuesday August 25th. I argued that I am interested in WHY you believe and do what you do. This is particularly important when we make our views public. One way this typically happens is with what is called a “prescriptive assumption.” It’s when we project our views on others. It reveals how we think the world or people SHOULD be. Danger! What’s great about it though, is that such declarations are invitations for dialogue. They are asking me to question the claim or statement and explore its reasoning.
Check this video out. It captures part of what I was saying about developing a healthy skepticism.
