RICHMOND, Va. — New Virginia legislation has been passed to reduce pedestrian injuries and crash related deaths after an uptick in statistics during COVID-19 in 2020.
Data from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles shows that during last year, 847 people died in crash related incidents, a 2.4% increase from 2019. The number of crashes dropped, but the death toll rose to its highest in more than a decade, according to the data.
