Do you think that something like Bolzano’s solution to their monument problem could be implemented effectively with/on Richmond’s Monument Avenue Confederate statues? Why or why not?
There are cultural and historical differences with each statue/monument created around the world. When it comes to implementing techniques or ideas on how to change the existence or context of such monuments, these differences must be taken into consideration. Specifically, implementing the solution of Mussolini’s statue to the Confederate statues can be done in theory but never carried through. The idea of having a panel to hear the public’s opinion would allow for “freedom of speech” to occur but if the statues were to be taken down, there will be an uproar but if they were to stay, there will still be an uproar. The fact that we have a constitutional right to “freedom of speech”, no side of history will be satisfied.
