I enjoy how tea in China is celebrated and retained as a unique aspect of their culture. It seems that in the United States, as with many other cultural objects, tea has become homogenized and mass-produced to the point where it retains little cultural significance or uniqueness. In contrast, Chinese tea culture is unique, specialized, and very…[Read more]

I’ve seen articles that mention crispr, but I never really understood how it worked, but this article does a good job of explaining it. I thought it was strange that one of the points they made in the article supporting this as effective, is that a majority of human diseases are single-point mutations. I would have thought that a majority of the…[Read more]

I’ve read quite a few studies that mention the link between cannabis use and schizophrenia and depression, but that do not go into detail about why this might be. I think it is something that deserves more research done to understand the cause of this relationship and how it affects public health and drug policy.

I really didn’t know much about genetic research before we had speakers come to class, but I can see why Dr. Lieberman might be concerned. My idea of genetic research might have been limited, but from the things I’d read online he was right to think that it was being marketed as a much simpler process than it was. I was grossly misinformed and it wasn’t until research was put into context for me that I understood just how complicated genetic research could be.
