CYBER AND PHYSICALLY SECURE COMMUNITIES

The VCU Cybersecurity Center is focusing on 100RC (100 Resilient Cities) as complex systems with a multitude of highly interdependent factors. Their security and resiliency to constant changes and disturbances of both cyber-threats and benign failures cannot be achieved by addressing individual components, rather by holistic understanding of underlying principles and interdependencies.

EXPLAINING WHAT A NEURAL NETWORK HAS LEARNED

Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) have shown unprecedented performance in a multitude of domains . Despite the impressive performance, there is a lack of trust in DNN systems among end-users . As a result, there is a reluctance to fully adopt DNNs in safety-critical domains suchas medical diagnoses.

HUMAN MACHINE INTERACTION VIA BCI

Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) are direct functional interactions between a human brain and an external device. BCI has recently gained new interest as a practical Human Machine Interface (HMI).

NATIONAL FUEL EFFICIENCY

The project investigates the means for improving the fuel efficiency of the Motor Coach fleet at the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and ultimately reducing fuel usage nationally across the US transportation sectors.

About Us

Our research group focuses on theoretical as well as applied research in Computational Intelligence algorithms, such as Artificial Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic Systems, and Unsupervised Learning techniques. We are applying these methods in areas of Energy, Cyber Security, Human-Machine Interfacing, Intelligent Control Systems, Software Defined Networks, Robotics, Visualizations, and others.
