Presenting my Dream

Currently, I’m looking at my digital text as an efficient app. I feel like I am focusing on how the app works, what it does for us and how it works. I think my primary text could be part of a bigger company in the next ten years. For example, it can be one of the set apps that iPhone chooses to put in every system/device they create. It can be one of Apple’s official utilities along with their compass, wallet, stocks, etc. I believe Yelp has a high chance of surviving the next ten years since countless people are still using it and there are slowly growing and expanding more and more.

Edit:
For my research questions, I am going to go to the direction of what more can Yelp do. Like how I mentioned above, partnering with Apple and become one of the set utilities they provide, like this, Yelp can expand with more ideas on how more people can use this app/site to their benefit.

This post states that YouTube will be where people watches everything. I agree with her because YouTube is really growing and expanding as time pass and watching cables on television seems like a thing of the past to me.

I like her primary text, she is doing on body cameras approaching it with an ethical perspective. I like her idea because she states the it will be used to eliminate the possibility of police brutality.

This post’s primary text is really interesting to me. She is doing it on an app called “Happy Cow” that provides users with vegan restaurants’s infos and she is predicting that not only vegetarians will benefit from this app but also people with dietary restrictions.

Futuring my Dream

Currently, I’m looking at my digital text as an efficient app. I feel like I am focusing on how the app works, what it does for us and how it works. I think my primary text could be part of a bigger company in the next ten years. For example, it can be one of the set apps that iPhone chooses to put in every system/device they create. “Imagine having your own self-contained knowledge manipulator in a portable package the size and shape of an ordinary notebook. Suppose it had enough power to outrace your senses of sight and hearing, enough capacity to store for later retrieval thousands of page-equivalents of reference materials, poems, letters, recipes, records, drawings, animations, musical scores, waveforms, dynamic simulations, and anything else you would like to remember and change.”

This part does not connect directly to my primary text but there was a question that I came up with after reading this paragraph. Since yelp is mostly used by teenagers to adults who are searching for reviews, pictures, hours, and ratings of the restaurants they are interested in, I was wondering if people were aware that they offer other categories too besides restaurants. I found out after choosing Yelp as my primary text that I can get infos on hotels, public services, pets, real estate, education, and religious organization, and etc. the same way I can get infos about the restaurants. It was very cool for me because I expected it as just a site/app that attracts reviewers for restaurants, but it includes other local businesses too.

Interpreting my Dream

I chose my primary text to be the app Yelp. This app can be used through any device and it has been downloaded and used by thousands of users. This app is basically a guide to finding the perfect place for you to eat since there are trustworthy reviews, ratings, and pictures that shows how the restaurant looks like, the mood, the workers, and etc. This app was founded by by Jeremy Stoppelman, Russel Simmons, and CTO back in 2004 and it has been getting more and more known after a several rounds of funding and expanding.

People usually use the app, yelp, to find nearby restaurants, view images of the food and to see what the mood of the restaurant is, and to be guided by reviewers and stay away from poor quality restaurants. It is really interesting because some people take yelp reviews as the Gospel, and the other takes it just as an amazon review. I personally search on different sites for the restaurant I am interested in. I compare reviews and the ratings but for locations and hours, I always go to yelp.

I am hoping to answer questions like, “Why do people trust/not trust on other’s reviews?”, “Do they find the reviews and ratings to be true?”, “Why do people rely so much on this app?”, “Did this app specifically change anything in how people see restaurants?”

Blog Beautification

When I was customizing my blog, I tried to show myself in it. What kind of style I like, what I am interested in and so on. I chose to go with a simple and chose the Canard theme which has a white background with red writings. I added a header image of a painting of a girl putting on a lipstick and that relates to me because it can show that I am into art and that I am also into make up. I like decorating things in a very simple and modern way so I did not change the fonts or the colors that came with it.

Nelson Nugget post

“Feel free to begin here. The other side is just if you want to know more about computers, which are changeable devices for twiddling symbols. Otherwise, skip it.” He wrote this believing his most essential message was not about computers, but about media and design. He believed the importance of computers lay not in their capacity for calculation, but in the fact that they would enable new generations of media.”

In this quote, I think Nelson is stating how the creative design is way much more important than the computer itself, and I totally agree with him. He believes that what the computer can do does not enable new generations of media and that the design should both be creative and push the audiences’ minds. Every detail in computers and in the media will continue to stay in this advancement of technology and affect the presentations, actions, and system.

Reflection Post

To be honest, I struggled a lot in the beginning of the semester trying to keep up with the daily blog posts. Also, the articles that we had to read made it harder for me to do class discussions since I was not able to completely understand it. I think the reading is on a higher level than what I am used to but I am hoping that as time pass I will be able to get adjusted to the readings that we have to do.

I really like this blog, unlike me, it seems like he knows exactly what he is doing and his posts are well put together with examples and pictures which I can start doing for my own posts.
Another blog that is very opposite of me is this one, this student knows exactly what they are talking about and it seems like they enjoy the daily blog posts and the topic we are learning about. I am hoping to get as engaged into this topic as this student and understand the material more clearly.

Texting my dream

As of now, I chose my primary text to be the app Yelp.

I chose this as my primary text because I thought the features this app gives changes the way people have been finding out about different restaurants and places. Through a single site/app, everything has been changed. Also, I have been wanting to know how the creators of this app came up with the idea and how they thought this app would affect people.

Integrated Domain concept experience

During class we did a class activity where we got into groups and went over our previous posts from reading the article and we were able to compare and contrasts each classmate’s opinion. I believe the different views on the technology advancement we had helped have different perspectives on this topic.
The motive behind using technology has changed from when people first started to use technology. It was first used to be just a helping guide for humans, but now it became a necessity for us that we can not live without.
