The video will cover what led up to the Civil War, who was involved, and who led either side. The video will also discuss in details about the major battles and trends of the war, including why the Union forces lost so many battles at first. The video will also help students better understand some of the major role players in the war. The video will be a great introduction for the Civil War for students. </span>

Use in Class

Using the movie transcript, I was able to identify the readability of the video. The video will be used as a whole group activity. Students will watch the video as an introduction to the Civil War. We watch a lot of brainpop videos in the classroom. Students are familiar with brainpop. This video covers all the standards for the Civil War. VS.7 The student will demonstrate an understanding of the issues that divided our nation and led to the Civil War by explaining the major events and the differences between northern and southern states that divided Virginians and led to secession, war, and the creation of West Virginia; describing Virginia’s role in the war, including identifying major battles that took place in Virginia; and describing the roles of American Indians, whites, enslaved African Americans, and free African Americans. This will be used in the Preparation phase of PAR.
