Milton’s Religion

Reflecting on Milton’s story of Adam and Eve, I wonder what his purpose was? I understand the purpose we were told, but with his message that he’s portraying through this story, he should have been doing more to celebrate God.

  1. I’m not sure what his purpose was — do you think we’ll ever truly know?

I see what you mean though — Paradise Lost, to me, often feels more like a celebration of humanity and humankind than a celebration of God. God exists as a omniscient but distant specter, at least, that’s how he feels when I read it. But Adam and Eve, the flawed Satan, they are close, real, and so vulnerable to our analysis.
