Volunteers Around the World at VCU is accepting applicants to their Summer Medical Outreach trip to Cambodia. Applicants from all backgrounds and majors who are passionate about volunteering are accepted. During clinic days volunteers will gain experience shadowing local physicians, taking vitals and learning about basic pharmacology. There will also be an opportunity to plan an interactive health lesson that will be presented to a classroom of young students.  This is an intensive two-week trip that is extremely valuable for someone who wants to gain insight into healthcare in communities abroad, while also experiencing a new country. Summer Study Abroad Program: Midwifery and Health in Guatemala

VCU’s Institute for Women’s Health and Highland Support Project will host a week in partnership with indigenous midwives and community leaders in Guatemala. Participants will learn about traditional Maya medicine and midwifery practices in the region. The trip will be May 16-23, 2020. The cost is $985 plus airfare. March 1 is the application deadline. The VCU Institute for Women’s Health and Highland Support Project spend a week, May 19-26, in partnership with indigenous midwives and community leaders learning about traditional Maya medicine and exploring the history of health care and healing in Guatemala. The group will learn about traditional medicine and midwifery practices. The cost is $985 plus airfare. The application deadline is Friday, March 23. Global Café

12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Global Education Office invites all members of the university community to its monthly Global Café in the University Student Commons, Virginia Rooms A-D. Attendees will experience a variety of cuisines and cultures from around the world. This student-centered program is designed to increase awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity at VCU. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet students from across the globe. Each café has a different theme and refreshments are always served. Everyone is welcome at this free event.
