Golden by Jill Scott is the song that Eletha Reid would choose to be her theme song. From Sedley, Virginia, she is the second oldest in a set of triplet girls.
“I chose VCU for its diverse medical environment,” Eletha said. “The programs provide a great education especially with the clinical education affiliations in the community.”
Something that Eletha especially likes about VCU’s MCV Campus is its effort to be inclusive.
“I like that VCU Health System has lactation rooms on every floor of the new Children’s Pavilion which is awesome,” Eletha said.
But there is always room for improvement. Eletha would like to see VCU be more accommodating of non-traditional students by providing discounted child-care, integrating more hybrid/online courses into programs, and partnering with surrounding communities.
As a SCIE Ambassador, Eletha wants to improve her communication, creativity, collaboration, and relationship building skills.
Her advice to new health sciences students is to enjoy the experience at VCU because the time will go by fast. She also recommends taking every opportunity to learn and grow not only in your profession but as a person.
Eletha Reid is part of the 2018 – 2019 SCIE Ambassador Cohort.
