Advanced training for clinician leaders is provided to improve the screening and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) through an Autism Fellowship within the Va-LEND program. Autism Fellows will become interdisciplinary team leaders in the screening, diagnosis, and implementation of evidenced-based practice for persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). 

Va-LEND Autism Fellowship for Physicians, Clinical or School Psychologists (300 Hours)

If you are a graduate student or a practicing professional in the field of pediatrics, family medicine, child psychiatry, clinical psychology or school psychology, and you are committed to working with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), we want you!! The purpose of this fellowship is to enhance your diagnostic, leadership and team-building skills.

Va-LEND Autism Fellowship:

  • Offers a flexible curriculum to enhance your ASD diagnostic skills: an academic track leading to a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Disability Leadership (12 graduate credits) or a non-academic clinical track
  • Provides an interdisciplinary leadership training experience
  • Includes participation in the Commonwealth Autism Service Assessment Clinic
  • Emphasizes family-centered care and cultural humility
  • Is part of the Partnership for People with Disabilities, a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities at VCU.

This is an advanced-level, graduate training opportunity entailing 300+ hours to be completed in 12-24 months. Tuition costs may be offered to cover VCU’s tuition and fees for the Va-LEND curriculum.

Va-LEND Autism Fellowship for Health Professionals, Special Educators, & Social Workers (300 Hours)

If you are a practicing professional or graduate student in a field of health care, special education, or social work, and you are committed to a career in the field of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), we want you!! The purpose of this fellowship is to enhance your leadership and team-building skills working with children with ASD.

Va-LEND Autism Fellowship:

  • Is part of the Va-LEND curriculum with a focus on autism
  • Provides an interdisciplinary leadership training experience
